Helping Hand for Starters

Good morning, afternoon and evening!

I haven’t written a fresh ” Helping Hand ” for ages. I just finished updating all of the others and am trying to get the hand of this new dashboard layout along with all the extra features.

The reason I’m back on wordpress again is i’m helping a family member start up his own business so if you need a builder for any job go check him out: http://roberthannay.wordpress.com/

I designed his page too. :D

Anyway. This ” Helping Hand ” is for the new ” Widgets ” I discovered while making my uncles wordpress page.

Widgets are the interactive parts of the blog that are normal pre-decided when you select the theme of your blog,

e.g. Categories, calendar, search. But now you can place them where you want or not at all.

So this one is called:

How to customise your own blog with widgets “

Ok, let’s begin.

First off, log in.

Then go to the drop down menu ” My Blog ” and click ” Dashboard “.

Scroll down the page until you see ” Appearance “.

Click on it and select ” Widgets “.

You will be faced with a page filled with different heaadings that you can click on and drag into place.

Take your time to get to know each of these heading or just stick with the ones you know.

For example: Click and drag on ” Categories “ and place in the space provided.

You will be given different areas depending on the theme you choose so look on the right hand side and see what you are given such as, Side bar 1, side bar 2.

You can choose the order the widgets go in but you can’t place them in just any place, they must follow the area down ward. You cannot rotate them either or change the colour.

You can however move them about even if you want to drag one from the middle and place it a the top it will rearrange itself, just hover over the one you want to once and wait for the dotted line to appear before you let go.

There you go.

You now know how to edit your widgets, I suggest you go back and forth between your widgets and your blog to help decide what looks best for your blog.
